Dairy and Cheese Industry- Wear Parts (Filling and Capping) Success
22nd September 2017
The brief:
Following the very successful supply of long life knife applications to a large dairy producer in the UK, an opportunity arose for Frictec to support consumable wear parts for various filling and sleeving machines. This lead to Frictec developing a large portfolio of critical spare parts for not only this one dairy but the whole group.
The result:
Visits to various sites were carried out to understand the processes and machinery being used at the sites. High usage and critical parts were looked at as a priority, then reverse engineered and trialed under controlled conditions. The main challenges set were reducing annual cost, improving lead times and part availability along with quality and design improvements.
Measurable results were achieved in many areas:
1. Average savings of 35% achieved versus parts supplied by the original machine manufacturer
2. Annual usage of critical parts identified, items manufactured and kept in stock, providing next day delivery when required
3. Design changes have been implemented, changing and improving materials and parts to meet production needs
4. Reduced machine down time acheived and production efficiencies measurably improved
